"Pimp" not as mainstream as previously thought

As I've said many times, there is nothing more despicable than popular culture's glorification of the pimp. But I guess I have bought into it myself because I probably wouldn't have thought twice if I heard MSNBC reporter David Shuster say Hillary Clinton "pimped out" daughter Chelsea by having her call Democratic superdelegates.

Understandably, ears which have been less desensitized by MTV perk up when pimp is employed as a verb describing the relationship of a parent to a child.

Shuster has now been suspended for his remarks. I hate when anyone is harshly punished for an-on-air slip -- especially when they meant no malice -- but it's still a good lesson for pimp glorifiers everywhere.
