Election results

Yes, there were elections yesterday, despite it being June. Some almost, kinda important ones.

California 50th District This was the big one. Republican Brian Bilbray narrowly defeated Democrat Francine Busby in a special election to replace disgraced former congressmen
Duke Cunningham. Cunningham's malfeasance and Bush's low approval ratings had prompted Democratic hope in this heavily Republican district, but it was not to be. Busby learned that while illegal immigrants might do a great job on her lawn, they probably aren't the right folks to turn to when you need help with your campaign.

New Jersey Senatorial primary It will be Republican Tom Keane Jr, son of a popular former governor, facing off against appointed Democratic Senator Robert Menenedez this fall for a big book of Amtrak tickets to Washington DC.

Alabama Gubernatorial Primary Fundamentalist Judge Roy Moore was easily defeated by current governor Bob Riley. With a poor showing in a republican primary in Alabama, it would seem Mr. 10 commandment's 15 minutes are up.

Also in Alabama, George Wallace Jr is running third in the race for Attorney General. A run off is expected. No word on whether Wallace intends to use the position to make good on his
father's promise of segregation forever.

Lastly, the California Democratic Primary for Attorney General was won by former California governor, perennial presidential candidate and current Oakland Mayor
Jerry Brown . I want to like Jerry Brown, I really do. He's wacky, he's different, he's a survivor, he spurns the governor's mansion for a piece of hard floor in a modest apartment and he clearly loves public service. The only thing is I had lunch with him one time. It was in college. He was to speak at an event my fraternity had arranged. The lunch was Jerry, myself and one other student. Governor Moonbeam started talking about UFO's. Really, really talking about UFO's. It started getting weird. I was forced to excuse myself. My buddy got caught talking to him for another hour about aliens and such. This is a 100 percent true story.

Although no one can ever say Jerry Brown won't take a couple hours out of his day to talk to the college kids about UFO's.
