Finally, progress

Lately, there has been a lot of bad news coming out of Iraq. But today I saw something that has turned me bullish on the future of the troubled nation.

According to multiple sources,
the Iraqi government will launch their own probe into the "incident" at Haditha.

Many war critics will see this as a negative development. They will claim the alleged massacre of unarmed Iraqi civilians by American soldiers will further destabilize Iraq and drive a wedge between our soldiers and the Iraqi people. Then they will refer to President George W. Bush as a chimpanzee (or chimp or chimpy if they want to save time so they can go the record store and pretend they like the
Dixie Chicks by legally purchasing their new album.)

On the other hand, the war's supporters will point out alleged massacres like this remind Iraqis of their whimsical youths.

I am not here to judge who is right and who is wrong in that debate.

I am here to point out the Iraqi government will launch a probe.

If they can probe, surely they are darn close to being able to conduct a hearing, form a commission, or, better yet, a subcommittee. I will be so bold as to envision a special prosecutor in their future.

The mastering of these essential inner workings of government prove Iraqis are, in fact, capable of handling a government complex as a democracy.

OK, maybe I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here.

But one thing is for sure -- the Iraqi government now knows exactly what to
do when confronted with constitution trampling un-elected federal agents ruthlessly ransacking the office of a humbly elected public servant simply because they have him on videotape accepting a large cash bribe from a government informant.
